Beading the Egg

STEP 1
Figure 1
The middle part of the beading. Work a beaded rectangle (Fig. 1). Its length is just a little smaller than the egg circumference and the width is 1/3 of the egg's height. Join the short sides of the rectangle together (Fig. 2), so that it forms into a loop. Insert the egg inside it. The loop should fit the egg tightly. Now work the top and bottom parts (Fig. 3). Bead a few rows picking up three beads at a time, then few more rows picking up two beads at a time and finish with one or two rows picking up just one bead. Bring the needle and thread through the last row of beads pulling tightly on the thread.

Sequin Leaves

STEP 2
Picture 1
Cut a length of wire, string a sequin onto it (Picture 1), and bring the sequin to the middle of the wire. Make one 180 degree twist on the wire ends, fixing them together just under the sequin. Now look at Picture 1: the black wire end is marked I, and the red one is II. Let us call them the left hand wire end (I), and the right hand wire end (II). String one more sequin onto the left hand end, move the second sequin close to the first one (Picture 2). Continue to work in this manner until the row is the desired length (Picture 3).

Tips:
  1. Make sure to string sequins protuberant side down, so that you were looking at their bend sides. The bend side of sequins should form the back side of your leaf.
  2. Make leaves of different length (5cm and up), using odd number of sequins for each leaf.

Picture 4a
Picture 4b

In Picture 4a you can see the top side of the work. If sequins are fixed properly, there is almost no wire visible from the top side, as it is hidden on the back side of the work (Picture 4b). When the work is the desired size, bend the wire with sequins on it in half. Connect the head and the tail ends of the wire by stringing the very first sequin of the row onto a wire tail end. Twist the ends together.

Cut one more length of wire, go through the sequin in the middle of the first wire (that is the place where the fold is). Work one more row of sequins in the same way (Pictures 2 and 3). Finish by twisting all the four wire ends together. The first sequin leaf is ready. Work as much of them as you want for your design.

Flowers

STEP 3
Figure 4

Each flower consists of five petals. The petals are worked as shown in Fig. 4. String ten beads onto the wire and go through the first bead, forming the first loop. Work one more loop, going through two beads to close it. Pick up one more set of ten beads and go through the first bead of the set to make the third loop. Now pick up seven beads and go through the sixth bead of the third loop. Add three beads and go through the eighth bead of the second loop. Now add three more beads and go through the sixth bead of the first loop. Finish by adding six beads and work a pedicle (Fig. 5).

Figure 6b

Figure 6c
Work 10 leaves in (I) and (J) beads (Fig. 6a through 6c).

Butterfly

STEP 5
Figure 7 and 8

Picture 7

Work the wings in peyote stitch in (B), (D), (E), (F) and (G) beads. Use the photograph as a guide for color changes within the design. See Fig. 7 to bead the top pair of wings and Fig. 8 for the bottom one. Work a right-angle weave for the body (Fig. 8), altering bead colors (B) and (C) for each row (Picture 7). Join 6 brown (C) beads to each side of the body to help fixing the winds.
