Thank a Teacher with Handmade Jewelry
Anytime you or someone you care for, such as a child or grandchild, is positively influenced by a teacher--any kind of teacher--consider acknowledging them with the recognition they deserve! And we believe the best way to acknowledge a teacher is with the gift of handmade jewelry. Teacher's Day is celebrated worldwide to honor educators for their special contributions in a particular field, and to the community in general. In the United States, Teacher Appreciation Week is the first full week of May. However, expressing appreciation and gratitude toward a special teacher needn't be constrained to a certain day; beaded jewelry can be given any time or occasion as teacher gifts.
And, of course, whether you're a professional or hobbyist jewelry maker, a gift of handmade jewelry or other hand-crafted creation will likely become a treasured keepsake to the recipient teacher.
Lanyards or bookmarks are practical gifts, while a charm bracelet, brooch or other adornment offers more sentiment. Design with charms and images that are traditionally considered symbolic of the teaching profession: an apple for knowledge, an owl for wisdom, a gold star for achievement, chalkboards, books, rulers and so on. Also consider charms specific to the type of teaching: music, P.E., math, art, crafts, religious, etc.
You can step up your level of jewelry gifts for teachers by making personalized charms or drops to add to the teacher gifts. The methods you can use include wireworking, hand-stamping metal, and using metal or polymer clay to name a few. Creating your own charms, drops or other components allows you to address more specifically the teacher's accomplishments in a way that ensures your gift will be cherished for many years.
If you're a parent, grandparent or family friend of the student who you're making the teacher's present for, invite the child or teen to help with the entire process of designing and crafting the piece. This is a terrific opportunity to share your love of beading, and an opportunity for a student to learn your trade. The student will also feel more connected to the appreciation expressed when the gift is received by their teacher.
Be sure to include your business card or contact information with the gift. And don't be too surprised to find that you've earned a new customer for your jewelry business!
