Angels Influence in Culture

Angels have appeared in works of art, literature and song throughout the ages. With so many cultures affected by angels, it's no wonder that their positive influence can also be found in traditional and modern styles of jewelry. The world's history is full of societies and time periods that depict angels each in their own ways, so finding angelic inspiration for your next project might be easier than you think.

Angels and similar beings have had an influence on just about every ancient culture including Mesopotamian, Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek and many others. This influence carried on into the early Western world and became a part of the evolving artistic expression by history's most renowned artists including Leonardo DaVinci, Botticelli, Raphael and others. Along with well-known paintings, angels are also seen in sculptures and statues among cathedrals, government buildings and city monuments.

Kingdoms and governments portray angels and winged beings on currency and military medallions. In Greek mythology, Nike, the Winged Goddess of Victory is depicted heroically with profound wings. Her image was often featured on the victory medals from wars including World War I. Even the shoe brand Nike takes its name from this winged goddess.

The 21st century has welcomed angels in art, fashion and jewelry often with romantic and fantasy oriented approaches. From contemporary interpretations to anime fan art, the depictions of angels may have changed, but the symbolism they portray is still recognized as hope, guidance, protection and love.

Incorporating personal thoughts of angels into your designs will give more meaning to your work and exemplify your passion for creativity and imagination.
