Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
Burbank, California

Describe your artistic style.
Simple elegance--I enjoy the sparkle and color of crystals. I avoid overly busy designs. I like pieces that go from casual to classy.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Many things! Nature, the material I work with and thinking of what I'd like to wear myself.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
Crystals and seed beads!

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
Lattice Bunholder and Criss-Cross Bracelet #2

What inspired this design?
Lattice Bunholder--An old idea I'd had for a window covering with removable dangling crystals. I thought I could change out the charms for different holidays.

Criss-Cross Bracelet--A tennis bracelet.

How did it come together?
In both cases I envisioned the finished piece and then it was sort of like math or engineering figuring out how to put it together.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I had done some stringing back in the 70s, then did nothing for years. Then about five or seven years ago, a co-worker came in and showed a bracelet she had made.

Who introduced you to beading?
Been hooked ever since. Her name is Lorelei. We work in the same cubicle. We often have a beading night after work in the conference room, along with two other beaders.

Do you have an artistic background?
Not a formal one, but I'd say so, yes. I'm always doing something creative--it's a necessity--like air.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
One of my conference room beading night mates emailed me the link to your contest.

What other hobbies do you have?
Scrapbooking, collage, painting, drawing and poetry writing.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Jewelry-making brings me JOY!! I love creating pieces. I love wearing them. I love giving them away. I love to see others make my designs.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I have sold a couple pieces to friends, but I am also publishing my designs. I hope to teach them and promote the look that way.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
I have donated pieces to raise funds for my church and my kids' sports (precision roller skating).

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Enjoy the process of creating as well as the results!!
