Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I started beading in the 1980s when making wedding gowns. I began making jewelry in 2000. I became an art teacher and beads were the best way to teach rhythm, pattern development, and weaving. I found that I loved all the new ideas and designs that had developed and I became hooked.

Do you have an artistic background?
I have a degree in Fashion Design and am presently teaching in a Fashion Design program here in Connecticut.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
I found Fire Mountain Gems and Beads through an internet search and was very happy I did!!

What other hobbies do you have?
Designing and sewing.

Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
I am fortunate to live near a wonderful beading store called "Beads East" and enjoy taking classes there and find support there also.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
Beading started as a way to visually teach some of the elements and principles of design but for me now it is part of my daily life and part of my livelihood.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I do have 2 web sites were I sell my work: maryelizabethanne.com and maryelizabethanne.etsy.com.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
I am asked many times for a donation of my work for fundraisers and always give something of my work. I especially like donating to programs that support education of children or organizations that support the wellbeing of children.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
Always keep trying, and have faith in yourself.
