The Raven Necklace
Meet the Designer-Artist

Where do you live?
New Jersey

Describe your artistic style.
I love creating statement necklaces. There are limitless possibilities. My pieces combine a number of different beads that work well together to create a perfect combination of depth and luxury. I've begun working with chains and wire-wrapping, but beaded pieces are my specialty.

What inspires you as a designer-artist?
Sometimes I'll go into the bead store with a vision of what I want to create. Most of the time, I'll get my inspiration in the bead store. I'll see beads I love, and buy them. Then the inspiration will come afterwards. Those have been some of my best pieces.

What materials do you most enjoy working with?
I love working with beads. Chains have become a new love of mine, but beads will always be number one in my heart.

What is the name of the piece you submitted with your success story?
The Raven Necklace

What inspired this design?
I love using semiprecious healing crystals. They combine style with metaphysical healing. I saw the agate slices and knew they would blend perfectly with the clear thunder polish crystals and black and silver seed beads.

How did it come together?
I had a vision of what I wanted to create, then I worked strand by strand creating different layers.

Share Your Background

When and how did you begin making jewelry/beading?
I began making jewelry in the summer of 2011. I couldn't find what I wanted in stores. I love fashion, and putting outfits together. After making pieces for myself, I began receiving inquiries on how to purchase my jewelry.

Who introduced you to beading?
I introduced myself. I'm pretty good at learning things I'm interested in. I'm self-taught, and my skills have greatly improved over the past year.

Do you have an artistic background?
I've always been an artistic person. I've always loved crafting. I taught myself how to knit and crochet three years ago.

How did you discover Fire Mountain Gems and BeadsĀ®?
I discovered Fire Mountain Gems on one of my many internet bead hunting excursions.

What other hobbies do you have?
I knit and crochet. I blog. I also enjoy museums and documentaries.

Do you belong to any beading societies or beading groups?
I am a member of The Artisan Group.

Beading Success

What role does jewelry-making play in your life?
I'm a professional model and actress, and blogger. My company is a major part of my life. I put my heart and soul into it. I left the official working world in 2008. It ended up being the biggest blessing, because it forced me to take a serious look at what I'm good at, and what I wanted to do. I focus on building my careers, and growing my company.

If you used jewelry-making as a way to bring in income, how are you selling yourself and your jewelry?
I currently sell exclusively on my website. I also do custom pieces, and have acquired customers in person while wearing my jewelry. A major part of my business comes from meeting people who see what I'm wearing, and ask about my jewelry. Beginning in 2013, I will pick up a few wholesale accounts in boutiques.

Do you participate in any charity fundraisers?
I participate in charity fundraisers when asked. I also seek out events to provide gift donations. I believe in being of service to others, and I enjoy giving.

Any advice for aspiring jewelry-artists?
I think it's good to know what other jewelry is out there, but developing your signature style is important.
